| Does the Thunderbolt 3 to Dual HDMI 2.0 Adapter support active cables? | Nov-24-18 |
| The Thunderbolt 3 to Dual HDMI 2.0 Adapter supports modest length active cables. The job of active equalization and cable de-skew becomes increasingly difficult with cable length. Generally, our customers have found that our Thunderbolt 3 HDMI 2.0 Adapter support 30 feet active cables, but not 50 feet cables. The cable length supported varies by vendor and cable quality. Ultimately, you would have to try it.
Is auxillary power required for active cables? The Sonnet adapter provides 55mA @5V (which is the minimum required by the HDMI spec). The RedMere RM1689, which is the ultra low power semiconductor device that performs adaptive equalization and advanced cable de-skew in active cables is "Zero Power Active", meaning that it does not require auxiliary power beyond 55mA.

| My Dual DisplayPort or Dual HDMI Adapter stopped working after the macOS 10.15.6 update. | Mar-30-20 |
| If you have a Mac with the T2 security chip:
iMac Pro
Mac Pro introduced in 2019
Mac mini introduced in 2018
MacBook Air introduced in 2018 or later
MacBook Pro introduced in 2018 or later
The Sonnet Dual DisplayPort or Dual HDMI Adapter may stop working after the 10.15.6 update. You can try using the Startup Security Utility to set External Boot to "Allow booting from external media." If this is already set, you must set it to "Disallow booting from external media", restart, then set to "Allow booting from external media", and restart.
This issue does not affect all configurations and we cannot reproduce the issue. Please let us know whether you have this issue and whether this procedure solves it for you. |
