| I'm having trouble reading two SanDisk Extremes or Extreme Pros, or the system is asking me to format an already-formatted card. Why? | Mar-24-10 |
| The SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro CF cards have design issues that prevent them from working in a dual-card reader in both Mac OS X and Windows. (See our compact flash compatibility on the product page: sonnettech.com/product/produalcfadapterexpress34.html.) SanDisk did not design the Extreme and Extreme Pro to correct ATA specifications. These two Sandisk models can be used as a master ATA device (CR reader upper slot), but not reliably as a slave device (CF Reader lower slot). You should be able to read the Extreme and Extreme Pro one at a time from the upper slot, but be sure that the lower slot is empty. SanDisk Basic, Ultra II, Extreme III and Extreme IV work fine, as do all cards we have tested from Transcend, Lexar and Kingston. For a trouble-free 90MB/sec CF card, we recommend the Lexar Professional 600X or Transcend 600X CF card. If you are not using a SanDisk Extreme or Extreme Pro and are experiencing these problems, contact Sonnet technical support. |
