| What kind of fibre patch cables are needed for the Sonnet Fibre Channel controllers? | Mar-29-13 |
| The cable length depends on fiber speed.
For 8Gb connections:
LC 62.5/125 OM1 Multimode Duplex cables...up to 20m (Sonnet cables TCB-FBR-xxM)
LC 50/125 OM2 Multimode Duplex cables......up to 50m
LC 50/125 OM3 Multimode Duplex cables......up to 150m
LC 50/125 OM4 Multimode Duplex cables......up to 190m
For 16 Gb connections:
LC 62.5/125 OM1 Multimode Duplex cables...up to 15m
LC 50/125 OM2 Multimode Duplex cables......up to 35m
LC 50/125 OM3 Multimode Duplex cables......up to 100m
LC 50/125 OM4 Multimode Duplex cables......up to 125m
Each fibre cable represents two MMF (Multimode Fiber) fiber optic cables: one for transmit and one for receive (the color of the cables are usually orange). A LC duplex style connector is needed to plug into Sonnet-supplied fibre channel cards.
LC stands for Lucent Connector. The LC is a small form-factor fiber optic connector. A duplex LC connector takes two simplex LC connectors and attaches them together. The term \u8220 LC cable\u8221 is generally used to describe a fiber patch cable with two fiber strands, and a LC duplex connector at each end. |
