667 Qio CF4 Firmware Updater (Windows)May-08-19
Description: This Windows installer updates the firmware in the Qio CF4 (model numbers QIO-CF4-E34 and QIO-CF4-PCIE, all revisions). This version expands the Qio CF4's PC compatibility. Please refer to Qio CF4 product page for specific compatibility information. After the firmware is updated, the Qio CF4 will continue to operate as before with Mac computers. If you are also using your Qio CF4 or Qio E3 with a Mac, we recommend that you use the the Mac OS Firmware updater instead for an easier update.

Notes:
1) You must burn the enclosed .iso file to a CD, and alter your computer's BIOS to enable booting from a CD.
2) You may need to run this updater twice. If the firmware updater is unsuccessful after the second attempt, please contact Sonnet support for further assistance.

Instructions:
1. Connect the Qio CF4 (install the interface card, connect the interface cable, and plug in the AC adapter) as described in the Qio CF4 User's Guide.
2. Turn on your computer and boot immediately into the computer's BIOS (or setup) menu.
3. Change your computer's BIOS settings so that the computer will boot from a CD-ROM first, and then restart your computer. Note: The steps required to change your computer's BIOS will vary with each computer model. Please refer to your computer's user manual for specific instructions on how to perform this procedure.
4. Burn the SonnetQioUpdaterX ISO file to a CD.
5. Verify the Qio is connected securely to the computer and has power.
6. Restart the computer with the SonnetQioUpdater CD in the CD drive; after the boot process, a menu will be displayed on the screen.
7. Select Load SATA CD/DVD Drivers and then press enter. Note: If your computer has an optical drive with a PATA (IDE) interface, choose option 2 to load PATA CD/DVD drivers instead.
8. At this time, the computer will be awaiting instruction. Type "cd QIOCF" (without quotes), and then press Enter.
9. Type "go" (without quotes), and then press Enter.
10. If the firmware update was successful, you will see a message saying so. Eject the CD and restart your computer; the firmware update is complete.

693 My computer kernel panics after updating OS X to 10.8.2. What can I do to fix it? (Qio/Qio CF4/Qio E3 issue)Nov-06-12
The OS X 10.8.2 update breaks compatibility with Qio, Qio CF4, and Qio E3 pro media readers, resulting in kernel panics on systems with Qio v1.1.6 and earlier software installed. By following the steps below, you may enable your system to work again, but the Qio will not operate after the procedure until you install Qio v1.1.8 or later software.

Process:

1. Cold-boot your computer holding the cmd and R keys together (this forces the computer to boot from the recovery partition)

2. Select the language

3. Open the Disk Utility application

  1. If your main operating system drive is locked (grayed out), select it and choose to “unlock” in the icon list at the top of the screen

  2. Note the name of the volume that holds your operating system - usually "Macintosh HD" – you will need this name later in these instructions

4. Quit Disk Utility

5. From the Utilities Menu, open the Terminal application.

6. Type the following commands, pressing the Enter key in between each command:

NOTE: In the following commands, <VOLNAME> is the name of the partition that your operating system resides on. This should have been obtained in step 3b. If your volume name has a space in it, such as "Macintosh HD", a “\” character must precede the space in the volume name (ie "Macintosh\ HD")

rm -r /Volumes/<VOLNAME>/System/Library/Extensions/STPCIFamily*

cp -rf /Volumes/<VOLNAME>/Library/Application\ Support/QIO/IOPCIFamily.kext /Volumes/<VOLNAME>/System/Library/Extensions

touch /Volumes/<VOLNAME>/System/Library/Extensions

7. Quit all applications and restart the computer.
