| This has been a known issue with Final Cut Pro 5, 6, and 7. Currently, the best practice is to open and save project files locally such as on your Desktop (only the .fcp file. The media can obviously stay on the SAN). When you are done working with with the project you can safely copy the project file to the SAN with the Finder to store it and then when you want to use it again you copy it back down to your Desktop. The only issue obviously becomes versioning control. Unfortunately there is no real work around and is an issue with Final Cut Pro when it is writing the actual project file to a SAN volume. If you decide to continue to work directly off the project file on the SAN you WILL continue to get this error at random intervals and when it happens your only recourse is to do a SAVE AS and save it to a local disk. If you really need to store project files where multiple people can access it then you might want to look into Final Cut Server because when you check out a project in Final Cut Server it actually stores the checked out copy of the project file locally and then when you check it back in it copies the file back so the project file is never actually being written by Final Cut Pro to the SAN\u8212 Tech Tip coutesy of Christopher Colline, Senior Systems Engineer, Mac Professionals. |

| In a 16-drive Fusion chassis, Sonnet formats, tests, and builds a RAID at the factory, then removes and numbers (as of Nov 2012) the drives for safe shipping. It is important to install the drives in the numbered order left-to-right. If you don't do this, the performance will suffer because the drive sequence gets scrambled through the SAS expanders to the RAID engine.
If you used the original RAID group built by Sonnet which did not have numbered drives or which numbered drives were not installed in sequential order, then back up your data, delete the RAID group and build a new RAID and your performance will improve.
This note does not apply to the DX800RAID. |
