570 My VFibre system is not booting. I get "A disk read error occured".Jun-27-11
When using the Configuration Wizard during metaSAN installation, if you have added the System Reserved Partition to the SAN by accident, you can no longer boot. This can happen because the Configuration Wizard detects the System Reserved Partition as a separate volume. During initialization, by default, all volumes are detected and selected to be added to the SAN. To prevent adding the System Reserved Partition to the SAN, make sure its check-box is cleared. (Note that after installing metaSAN on the VFibre, the Configuration Wizard no longer lists the System Reserved Partition in the list of volumes to be added to the SAN.) Follow the steps below to recover.

1. Insert the Windows installation disk in the DVD drive of the Fusion VFibre.

2. When the boot process prompts you to select the language of the installation, press Shift+F10 buttons on your keyboard to start the Command prompt.

3. Change the directory to Windows\\System32, executing the following: cd Windows\\System32

4. Type: msanutil /u c:

5. Restart the Fusion VFibre The System Reserved Partition is now removed from your SAN and you can normally start Windows.

718 I'm unable to save FCP project files onto the SAN volume, getting an "Unknown File" error message.Oct-18-12
719 My performance is lower than I expected. Does the drive order matter?Nov-02-12
In a 16-drive Fusion chassis, Sonnet formats, tests, and builds a RAID at the factory, then removes and numbers (as of Nov 2012) the drives for safe shipping. It is important to install the drives in the numbered order left-to-right. If you don't do this, the performance will suffer because the drive sequence gets scrambled through the SAS expanders to the RAID engine.

If you used the original RAID group built by Sonnet which did not have numbered drives or which numbered drives were not installed in sequential order, then back up your data, delete the RAID group and build a new RAID and your performance will improve.

This note does not apply to the DX800RAID.

728 My MetaLAN performance from the VFibre is less than I expect. What can I do?Dec-05-12
Make sure your RAID is set with a 128k interleave with the ATTO RAID Config Utility. Anything larger will result in a gross mismatch of ethernet packet size and drive buffer size, adversely affecting storage access performance over Ethernet.

You can try increasing the buffer size on the 10G Ethernet card. The default is 500 read buffers and 500 write buffers. Try 2500 read buffers and 2500 write buffers.

If you are accessing large files, then turning on Jumbo Packets on both the VFibre and all the workstations may help increase performance. NOTE THAT JUMBO PACKETS NEED TO BE EITHER ON AND OFF ON ALL WORKSTATIONS AND THE VFIBRE, OR ELSE PERFORMANCE WILL GREATLY SUFFER FROM THE MISMATCH.

Try not to use any small ethernet hubs in your system. If you do, then turn off flow control on any port connected to a hub. Otherwise back pressure jamming signals may degrade overall performance for the segment connected to the hub. (Note that a hub is not the same as a non-blocking switch like the Sonnet GES-24 and GES-48, which readily support flow control.)
