Description: Installation of this driver and firmware provides support for the Sonnet Allegro USB 3.0 PCIe card (Part No. USB3M-E; discontinued) in compatible Windows desktop computers, and the Sonnet USB 3.0 ExpressCard/34 (Part No. USB3-2PM-E34; discontinued June 2014) in Windows notebook computers with an available ExpressCard slot. This driver is required for Windows 7, Vista, XP, Server 2008 and R2 (32 and 64-bit). The driver is included in Windows 8; no need to download and install a driver.

1. Make sure the Sonnet adapter card is installed in your computer.
2. Disconnect any USB 3.0 device from the adapter card.
3. Locate the driver for the NEC/Renesas USB3 Controller (uPD720200)
4. Download and run the driver installer.

High power bus-powered drives are supported by the current and recent line of Sonnet USB 3 cards, plus the Tango 3.0 PCIe (FW8USB3A-E) cards, but not the discontinued USB 3.0 PCIe cards (USB3-E or USB3M-E), the initial version of the Tango 3.0 PCIe card (FWUSB3-E), or any USB 2.0 cards.

If you are still having trouble, this may be a problem due to a voltage drop in the USB cable. Use the following guide to select the correct cable for your application.

In general, these cables should work with SSDs or optical drives drawing up to 2A of current:

Generally, the gauge of the power-carrying wires can be inferred from the cable outside diameter.
