98 ATTO R380 RAID Software (Feb. 2008)Aug-05-09
The February 2008 release of the ATTO software broke the "automaponboot" feature, in which an array that is moved to another machine will be automatically recognized. Sonnet will not be posting this update. For customers who may have upgraded directly from ATTO, we recommend they change the automaponboot setting to 'disabled.' This way on each reboot the mappings will persist.

The new ATTO software release included these enhancements:

* Staggered startup.
* Autorebuild - RAID will automatically start rebuilding if it finds a damaged disk replaced by a clean one.
* Adaptive read-ahead policy - will read ahead for long data streams, not for short ones.

101 Fusion storage system activity lights are always on with Seagate ES.2 (Enterprise) drives installed in the drive bays.Oct-22-10
Sonnet engineering has fixed this issue with some Fusion storage systems. This issue was addressed and fixed as follows:

APRIL, 2008: in Fusion D400Q and Fusion D500P systems with serial numbers beginning with J.
MAY 20, 2008: In Fusion D800RAID with serial numbers beginning with G.
All versions of Fusion R400Q and R800RAID are compatible with Seagate ES.2 Drives.

Note: Seagate ES.2 drives have lower performance than Sonnet recommended drives.

775 Does the ATTO R380 Support OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)?Oct-21-13
Official ATTO support ends with OS X 10.8.5.

With OS X 10.9+, you will no longer be able to boot from a drive or array connected to an ATTO R380, and you will no longer be able to create new RAID groups. You can install current drivers for this card under Mavericks, but there will be no support from ATTO. Furthermore, Mavericks OS will complain at every boot about using unsigned drivers.

To transition to Mavericks, customers with an early Fusion DX800RAID storage unit equipped with an R380 RAID controller can purchase from Sonnet an R680 RAID controller with an included cooling upgrade kit.

All Fusion DX1600RAID units were equipped with an R680 RAID controller, which has complete Mavericks support.

The Fusion D800RAID and R800RAID storage units are not compatible with the ATTO R680 card. To transition to Mavericks, customers with a Fusion D800RAID or R800RAID must upgrade to a DX800 storage unit which includes an R680 controller. The drives can be moved with the RAID array intact. If you would like to make this upgrade, contact Sonnet sales to inquire about purchasing a DX800 without drives.

788 Can I use an ATTO R680 with the R800RAID or D800RAID?Jun-24-14
Can I use an ATTO R680 with the R800RAID or D800RAID? The ATTO R380 that come with these storage units does not have full OS X 10.9 support and I want to migrate to Mavericks.

Background:
The D800RAID and R800RAID were qualified with the ATTO R380 RAID controller card. The R380 is a 3Gb SAS card will link to modern 6Gb hard drives at 3Gb. The R680 would link at 6Gb, however, these chassis were never qualified at 6Gb, and migrating to an R680 means one must force the R680-to-hard drive link to 3Gb for reliable operation. Because SATA hard drives are not capable of saturating a 3Gb link, the performance impact is minimal.

After installing the R680, and before formatting the RAID array, force the link to 3Gb...
Run Terminal, and type: sudo ./atsasnvr -k 3
A reboot is necessary for the change to take effect.

You can now use the R680 with the D800RAID or R800RAID.
